On behalf of the Board of Education, Administrative Team, and Staff of Tremont CUSD # 702, it is my privilege to greet you and welcome you to the Tremont CUSD # 702 website. We at Tremont CUSD # 702, have a strong belief in our motto, " A Tradition of Educational Excellence," and our staff and students work as partners to reach for excellence in the areas of academics, athletics, and the arts.
For those of you less familiar with Tremont CUSD # 702, the District itself is located in Tazewell County and spans nearly 68 square miles. Tremont CUSD # 702 is a unit district (preK-12) with 3 schools (Tremont Grade School, Tremont Middle School, and Tremont High School). The District has 160 full and part-time employees and a current budget of over $9 million.
We have just completed Phase II of a major building and renovation project that has spanned the past two and one-half years. A 40,000-square foot addition to Tremont High School resulted in additional classrooms, biology lab, band room, chorus room, locker room, administrative offices, kitchen, and cafetorium with a fully-equipped stage. Renovations to both the middle school and high school totaled 12,500 square feet and resulted in additional classroom space, an updated chemistry/physics lab, and middle school office. Phase I, completed in September of 2007, included a new football field, lights, all-weather track, bleachers, press box, baseball field, softball field and field house. Located in the field house are two locker rooms, restrooms, concessions, and storage.
Tremont Schools have consistently ranked in the top 5% of all districts in Illinois in regard to student achievement. Tremont # 702 has earned both the Bright Star Award and Bright Star A+ Award in recent years. The Bright Star A+ is awarded to school districts that are among the top 5% of Illinois school districts. The Bright Star Award criteria are based on districts whose students' academic performance ranks in the upper one-third of Illinois school districts, but whose expenditures per pupil rank in the lower one-fourth of Illinois school districts. We feel the residents of Tremont receive "a lot of bang for their buck." In 2006, Tremont High School was designated a Blue Ribbon High School by the United States Department of Education. In addition, Tremont CUSD # 702 has received the State's highest financial rating (i.e. "Financial Recognition") for several years running.
Presently, Tremont High School enjoys an excellent working relationship with Illinois Central College in East Peoria, Illinois and through its partnership with ICC offers more than 20 dual-credit opportunities for its students.
Tremont CUSD # 702 also enjoys excellent educational support services. The District's technology staff supports current computer technology in all our classrooms and across all our programs. Presently we have 2 nursing staff members, 3 counseling staff members, and the district provides a full program of services for special needs students in combination with Tazewell-Mason Counties Special Education Association. Additionally, those students who qualify for Federal Title I reading services are being supported in the classroom by "Highly Qualified" teaching and support staff. Tremont CUSD # 702 is able to offer its students a wide variety of co-curricular activities to help round out their educational experiences in our District.
