Sorry for the confusion this morning regarding a fictitious late start at Tremont. We believe that the television stations confused the Parking Ban in Tremont with the school system and then the radio stations picked it up from there. No one from District #702 contacted the television stations about a late start. Mr. Hinman did call and correct the errant television and radio reports and that is when SchoolReach phone system was activated to inform the community that indeed we were starting on time. SchoolReach will always be our best mode of communication for instances like this morning.

Thank you!

Welcome to Spirit Week at the Middle School! Today is Comfy Day and it seems to be a good fit for a gray and dreary Monday. We will be having a Pep Assembly on Friday that the cheerleaders will be putting together. It will be at 2:15 in the South Gym. Our District Spelling Bee will be held Tuesday, February 2nd at 8:30 in the Cafetorium. For the second year in a row we are hosting the Tazewell County Spelling Bee in our Cafetorium. That will be held on February 19th at 9:00. Good luck to all of our spellers!

Tremont Middle/High School is hosting a H1N1 Clinic this Thursday, November 19th for the Tazewell County Health Department. Please go to the District website for more information about the clinic. You should have received or will be receiving this afternoon a consent form that will need to be signed and returned if you want your child to receive the vaccination. Middle School students--if they have parental consent--will get the vaccine during the school day. If you haven't seen the packet from your child please ask them about it or call the Middle School office for questions.

Thanks!

Veteran's Day is this Wednesday, November 11th. We will be in school this year and have put together a number of activities to commemorate the service of our veterans. Each grade level has put together a program to call attention to veterans in an effort to raise awareness for our students. Sometimes, it is too easy to forget that without our veterans this country would not have reached preeminence worldwide. Please check our website for our scheduled activities.

It looks like the Middle School has made it through the first round (and hopefully worst) of the flu. Our number of students absent has returned--as of November 2nd--to near normal rates. For the last two weeks numbers stayed between 40-60 students absent a day which is the highest sustained numbers I have seen in my 11 years here. I want to thank the parents for helping keep our absent rates relatively low compared to some other area schools that saw numbers that were significantly higher than ours. Thank you for keeping your ill students at home so that the flu couldn't spread as quickly. Our Tremont H1N1 clinic is scheduled for November 19th provided that the county has their shipments delivered. Hopefully, we can stay healthy!

The Middle School is currently having discussions about the direction we want to travel in terms of our technology goals as a school. It can be overwhelming for us as we realize that our students need to be exposed to different types of technology at school to help prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Technology is not cheap, and these are hard economic times that require difficult decisions to be made. So we are prioritizing our school's technology needs so that we can be as effective as possible with our technology resources available to our students and staff. Stay tuned as we move forward with our technology priorities.

Our bells and intercom are back working in the Middle School!

We are finishing up our first round of AIMSweb Benchmark testing. This process will be repeated mid-way through the year and at the end of the year to mark progress.....

We are going back to a bus bell dismissal. We tried this year to dismiss all students at the same time but West Street became too dangerous with parked cars, walking students, and school buses all trying to use the road. Bus students will be dismissed 5 minutes before the rest of the students......

Thanks and have a great Wednesday!
